One more look: Tigers host Robinson in final scrimmage
With question marks on both sides of the ball heading into the 2011 season, suprises aren’t necessarily a good thing, but after Rockdale’s scrimmage with Elgin Saturday morning, Tiger Coach Jeff Miller welcomed the unexpected.
“We were pleasantly surprised,” Miller said. “I thought on offense that we really threw and caught the ball well and the pass protection was good.”
Attitude was also on the plus side.
“We set the tone early on both sides of the ball,” he said. “We controlled the line of scrimmage. We were really aggressive and that was a plus. We were really pleased with the progress.”
Rockdale’s first team defeated Elgin’s first team 2-1 as the second unit fell 2-0.
The Tigers are looking to punch up their running attack while increasing the passing game and are also switching their defensive scheme to a 4-3 from their former 3-4 setup.
The Tigers will have the opportunity to continue their improvement when they host Robinson in a scrimmage Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Tigerland Field.
The scrimmage will feature a battle of former Jacksboro coaches in Miller and new Robinson head man Tommy Allison.
The Rockets were 3-7 last season and are tabbed fifth in District
Rockdale opens the season Saturday, Aug. 27 by hosting Abilene Wylie.
