‘Look guys, water! Let’s stay’



Usually by this time of the summer Milam County fields are sporting a fine crop of “cowbirds” (egrets) but in super-hot, super-dry 2011 even they are staying close to water, if they can find it. Motorists along FM 908 about a mile west of Apache Pass have been treated to this sight of a rapidly-diminishing tank which has attracted hundreds of the birds. Less than 10 inches of precipitation has fallen for the year and 2011 has broken most of the heat records in Rockdale and Milam County.
