KICKOFF 2011 ‘We’re going to have to grow up real fast’
We don’t want to say that the Rockdale Tiger football team that steps on Tigerland Field Saturday night will be young, but at some point in the evening, four sophomores and a freshman will be manning the defense.

Netters dig up two consecutive victories
The Rockdale Lady Tigers got a big confidence boost with a road win over Class A No. 12 ranked Thrall Tigerettes on Tuesday night.
The Lady Tigers (3-6) fell in the first set 23-25, but rallied to take the next three set and the match 25-22, 25-17, 25-18.
Jill Young had a lively night with 13 kills to lead the team and Victoria Drake added 15 assists. Full Story

Eagles set to duplicate last season’s success rating
Opener switched to Milano because of poor field conditions
MILANO—Already having a schedule change to deal with, the Milano Eagles are ready to start off their 2011 campaign as they host Waco Texas Christian Academy Stars at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Pruitt Field.
Milano was supposed to play TCA in Waco, but due to unplayable field conditions, the Stars are making the trip to Milano. The Eagles defeated the Stars 27-17 in 2010. Full Story

Milano rebounds against Mumford on Tuesday
The Lady Eagles had a tough time at the Iola tournament this week, unable to overcome mental mistakes and serving errors.
Milano’s Lady Eagles (8- 6) got back on track Tuesday night with a road win over Mumford, that was after a rough time at the Madisonville tournament over the weekend.
The Lady Eagles swept the Lady Mustangs at Mumford Gym 25-13, 25-15, 25-6. Full Story

A frustrating year in Class 2A prepares for 2011
THORNDALE—Winning seven games and being shut out of the playoffs is all the motivation Thorndale needs heading into the 2011 season, their second in Class 2A.
The Bulldogs, 7-3 a year ago, travel to Hamilton to open the season at Kooken Field Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The absence ended a string of six straight playoff appearances for Thorndale. Full Story
Dry conditions could boost dove hunting prospects
New Online Map Allows “Virtual Scouting” of TPWD Dove Areas
Dry conditions don’t necessarily equate to bad dove hunting, wildlife biologists with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department suggest. An extended drought across much of Texas could be beneficial for dove hunters as birds will have to rely upon limited resources. Full Story
Road Dogs take care of Troy
Atkins, Cook pound out 10 kills apiece
TROY—The Thorndale Lady Dogs fought hard for a road win at Troy on Tuesday night.
It was the only game for the girls this week as they had open dates over the weekend due to a scheduling conflict.
The team is now 6-3 on the season.
Thorndale defeated the Lady Trojans 25- 23, 19- 25, 25- 23, 25-12. Full Story
