WACO—James Moore recently graduated from Texas State Technical College with two degrees.
He earned associate in applied sciences degrees in computer networking and system admiministration and network security technology, all while compiling a 3.4 grade point average.
He is the son of Bobby and Vicki Moore of Rockdale and a 2007 graduate of Rockdale High School.
Mantey earns Angelo State degree
SAN ANGELO—Dale S. Mantey of Rockdale recently graduated from Angelo State Unversity.
He earned a bachelor of arts degree during the university’s summer commencement.
Rockdale Junior High sets open house Sept. 13
Rockdale Junior High will host an open house from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, principal April Eschberger has announced.
“We will be handing out student progress reports on Tuesday evening. Parents will have the opportunity to meet their students’ teachers and ask questions,” she said.
There will also be a Gifted and Talented parent meeting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
“We encourage each parent to attend and pick up progress reports,” Eschberger said.
Mandatory substitute meeting Sept. 14
A mandatory training for all new Rockdale ISD substitute teachers will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the Rockdale Jr. High School conference room.
Individuals interested in becoming substitute teachers must attend this training in order to qualify for the substitute list. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and provide consent to a criminal background check.
Substitute applications can be picked up at the RISD Central Office prior to the training.

Gold Cards available for senior citizens
Rockdale ISD Gold Cards are available to senior citizens 60 years of age and older who are residents of Rockdale ISD, according to Supt. Dr. Howell Wright.
Gold Cards are complimentary general admission passes for Rockdale ISD activities. They may be obtained from the superintendent’s office 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the year.
Current Gold Cards do not have an expiration date; therefore, if you already have one, there is no need to request a new one, Wright said.
PTO membership applications, meeting
Rockdale ISD’s Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is still accepting membership applications, please send them back to school with your children. Through the membership dues they are able to build a scholarship fund and purchase educational materials and equipment for the schools.
Reminder that the next PTO meeting will be Monday Sept. 12 at the Rockdale Junior High commons area. Child Care will be provided. The PTO’s goal is to foster a nurturing and caring environment that strives for continued parent involvement. Rockdale PTO always appreciates their parent volunteers, as do our teachers and staff.

Blood drive set at Milano HS Sept. 12
Milano High School’s National Honor Society will sponsor a blood drive for the American Red Cross from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12. The drive will be held in the school’s old band hall room.
