Bargains galore at garage sales
Who needs a mall? Early risers flocked to garage sales, like this one on Brazos, beginning before 8 a.m. Saturday in annual event.
Reporter/Mike Brown Rockdale turned into a gigantic shopping mall Saturday as the town’s annual citywide garage sale day drew bargain hunters to virtually all sections of town.
Fifty garage sales were signed up for the annual event and several others just “sprang up” during the weekend.
In fact, a number of frontyard entrepreneurs got an early jump. Several garage sales started on Friday and a handful even cranked up on Thursday.
The 2011 event featured garage sales in all parts of Rockdale, with the usual large concentration around the Linwood Acres subdivision, including Brazos Street.
There were also several sales in east Rockdale and along the length of Murray Avenue, central to west Rockdale.
‘I think that one is just my size! The price is right.’
Everything from artwork to furniture at this garage sale on Bell Avenue drew a steady stream of browsers.
What a concept, some garage sales were actually held in garages, like this one on Yokley.
