Outdoor Hunting Expo set Sept. 23-24 at Apache Pass

A Civil War re-enactment will be part of the weekend’s entertainment Sept. 23-24 as the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce hosts the Central Texas Hunting & Outdoor Expo at the entertainment venue, eight miles northwest of Rockdale on FM 908.

Local Civil War buffs, in uniform, will first visit Apache Pass Friday, Sept. 23, first day of the event.

“It will be a school field day and students will get to visit with the Civil War actors,” Morgan said.

Friday events also include check-in for the two- day barbecue cookoff, a margarita and salsa taste-off and entertainment under the Apache Pass pavilion.

Saturday, Sept. 24 will be a full day with the Civil War reenactment at 1 p.m. and a “camo pageant” getting under way at 9 a.m. and running throughout the day.

The evening ends with a camo cotillion dance, featuring Rockdale native Lange Debault.

A skeet shooting tourney will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and barbecue cookoff awards will be announced at 6.

Throughout the day Sept. 24, there will be archery competition, horseshoe and washer tourneys, fly fishing demonstrations and lessons and displays by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and Texas Forestry Service.
