County photography deadline this Friday

The County 4-H Photography entries are due by Friday, Sept. 16 so winners can be submitted to the District 4-H Photography Contest by Oct. 1. This year the photos need to be submitted as a jpg not to exceed 1 MB to ce-walker@tamu.edu. The August 4-H Newsletter gives the categories and labeling guidelines.

Beginners, juniors, intermediates and seniors can all submit photos for the county contest. Junior, intermediate and senior county winners will be submitted to the district contest. Photos for the district contest will be on display at the Heart O’ Texas Fair Oct. 7-15 in Waco. Stop by the Creative Arts Exhibit Building to view the pictures.

H.O.T. SCRAMBLE EN TR IES DU E FR IDAY— Heart of Texas Fair entries are due on Friday, Sept. 16. This includes calf scramble entries. If you are interested in participating in the H.O.T. Fair, please call the office as soon as possible.

Exhibitors interested in exhibiting livestock at spring major livestock shows need to begin thinking about what and where they will be showing. Deadlines for entries to Fort Worth are Nov. 4 and San Antonio, San Angelo, Houston and Star of Texas will be on Nov. 16.

New this year, each exhibitor interested in participating in a 2012 major livestock show will need to attend the online Quality Counts training verification and complete the test at the end of the training. You will need to have this information prior to submitting your entry to our office. Visit the website, http://qualitycounts. tamu.edu/texas-trails to participate in the training. HORSE PROJECT—If you are interested in the 4-H Horse project, call the Extension Office 254-697- 7045 or email ce-walker@tamu.edu to get on the email listing for future meeting activities. The leaders, Tarrin Warren and Amy Laurrell are planning a project meeting on September 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Warren’s home, 2468 CR 346 in Milano, phone 512- 269-9270.

SHOOTING SPORTS—The first meeting for the Milam County 4-H Shooting Sports Club will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18 in the New Salem Building on the Rockdale Fair grounds. Club managers, Tiny and Susan Dean and Chris and Kelly Cooper, will be coordinating the meetings. This meeting is for 4-Hers interested in the shooting sports project as well as returning members of the club. MAJOR SHOW TAG ORDERS DUE—Anyone interested in showing swine at any of the spring major livestock shows, such as Fort Worth, San Antonio, San Angelo, Houston,or Star of Texas in Austin, should order tags by Friday, Sept. 16. Tags will be $10 per tag and should be ordered at the Milam County Extension Office. Payment must be made at the time tags are ordered.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
