United Way ‘radiothon’ ahead Friday
The South Milam County United Way will hold a radiothon from 9 a.m. to 12-noon Friday at Busy Bea Restaurant, according to Tom Puccio, SMCUW board member.
“This is an attempt to raise funds to meet the fourth quarter budget of 2011,” Puccio said.
He said the promised fourth-quarter distributions to 18 community groups and organizations total $12,000. Full Story

Runaway teens hit by train near Gause
Two teenaged boys who left a youth therapeutic residential facility near Cameron without permission were struck by a train Monday morning near Gause.
The boys, ages 16 and 17, were reported in critical condition at Scott & White Hospital, Temple, at mid-week. Full Story
County eyes water distribution for drought-stricken ranchers
Precinct 3 Commissioner Dale Jaecks told Milam County commissioners Monday he had a plan to truck water from Alcoa’s Rockdale Operations to drought-stricken cattle raisers in the county.

Milam budget shows surplus for the year
CAMERON—Milam County commissioners adopted a “no change” tax rate for 2012 on Monday and got a little good news about 2011 finances, too.
County Judge Dave Barkemeyer said the current county budget is “in the black” for the year and a $235,000 surplus is projected at years end. Full Story
