Matinee Musical Club to sponsor afternoon of music Sept. 25th

An afternoon of special music will be presented by the Matinee Musical Club at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Peace Lutheran Church fellowship hall. The event w ill feature the Oasis Quartet, a dynamic group of four unique indiv iduals who enjoy enter taining and have been friends for many years.

These talented ladies have over 100 years of barbershop experience, lending their talents to the championship sounds of Sweet Adelines International.

Lead vocalist Vickie Dennis is the music director of the Houston Horizon Chorus and of the Houston Tidelanders, a men’s barbershop chorus, and is an accomplished musician.

Kellie Gareri, Baritone, is an “at large” member of Sweet Adelines International and teaches elementary school in Pearland. Bass singer Gail Bartz is a member of the Houston Horizon Chorus, and runs “Grandma’s Daycare” for her grandson Logan.

Tenor Janet Burnett is also an “at large” member of Sweet Adelines International and is the music director of The Statesmen, a men’s barbershop chorus in Spring.

As the current Region 10 Quartet Champions, Oasis will be competing in Sweet Adelines International competition in October 2011 at the Toyota Center in Houston.

Tickets for the Rockdale event are $10 and all proceeds will be used to fund the Louise Hale Sessions Scholarship, which is presented annually by the Matinee Musical Club to an outstanding high school senior who plans to continue musical pursuits.
