Schneider Memorial events Sept. 30, Oct. 1

SALTY—The 16th annual Maggie Schneider Memorial scholarship fund team roping and barbecue cookoff jackpot fund-raiser is set Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, according to organizer Richard Schneider.

The events will be held at the Joey & Phyllis Hiney Ranch Arena in the Salty Community, Schneider said.

Activ ities Friday, Sept. 30 include a three-person steer saddling and a two-person calf dressing contests, along with a margarita and salsa jackpot.

On Saturday, Oct. 1 there will be a team roping and barbecue cookoff. The cookoff is $75 per team for brisket, chicken and ribs, $25 for cook’s choice and $25 for beans. There is an 80-percent pay back in the barbecue cookoff, Schneider said.

Jackpot horseshoe and washer pitching tournaments will begin at 2 p.m.

To enter the barbecue cookoff, send money to the Maggie Schneider Memorial at 1205 East Salty, Thorndale TX 76577.

Fund-raising items are: 1st–270 Remington Deer Rifle with scope; 2nd–four (4) P235/75r15 car tires; 3rd–four (4) 7.00-15 trailer tiers; 4th–$100 gift card to BS Tire; 5th–1 deer processing, Hildebrant Market; 6th–1 deer processing, Hildebrant Market; 7th–$100 gift card to Walmart; 8th–$100 gift card to Walmart; 9th–Dinner for six (6) at Downtown Cafe in Thorndale; 10th–$25 TR Hot Sausage from Thorndale Meat; 11th–$20 gift card Schroeder’s Place; 12th– Cooper Tire merchandise.

Tickets may be purchased at area businesses in Thorndale and Rockdale and are $1 each and six for $5. Bubba Grimm at Schroeder’s Place in Thorndale still holds the record for most tickets sold, Schneider said.

All proceeds from the events will go to the Maggie Schneider Memorial Scholarship Fund.

“We have given over $100,000 to families in need and scholarships,” Schneider said.
