Mr. Sm ith died Monday, Sept. 12, at his home.

He wa s born Jan. 12, 1933 , in the Pleasant Retreat community to Osc ar William and Melissa La nor (Smit h) Smith.

Mr. Smith was a life long resident of Plea sant Retreat community.

He married Alv a Ruth Catc hin g s on A ug. 3, 19 5 6, i n Fir s t Method ist Church in Taylor.

Mr. Smith was a farme r and ra nch er and was also employed at I. G.C. in Rockdale as a pla nt operator for 32 ye ars, retiri ng on Ju ly 1, 1988.

Hewasamember ofPleasant Retreat Methodist Church.

Mr. Smit h enjoyed farming his watermelons and river fish ing. He was pre ceded in death by hisparen tsand twobrot hers , Wilmer Smit h and James Smith.

Survivors are hiswife ,Rut h Smit h of Pleasant Retreat; a son, William R. Smit h and wife Kay of Round Rock; a daughter, Debrah E. St ull and husb and Jef fre y S. of Marlin; two brother s, Nathan Smith , Le ona rd Smith and w ife Barbara, all of Thorndale; a sister, Gle nn ie Lau ghl in of Thor ndale; and th ree gr and son s, Jacob Clay Stull, Stephen William Smith and Scott Michael Smith.
