Area runners compete at Lexington

LEXINGTON—The cross country season got underway as area athletes competed at the Small School Showdown.

Rockdale’s Juan Rubio was second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:15.40, which was eight seconds behind the winner.

Thorndale’s Dillon Irwin was 11th at 10:50.40, while Fransisco Romo of Rockdale was 18th with a time of 11:06.70 and Rockdale’s Benito Costillo was 32nd at 11:39.50.

Milano’s Efrain Flores paced his team in 28th at 11:25.

Fellwo Eagle runners Treyton Steinbecker was 51st at 12:31, Justin Grimes was 59th at 12:59, Derek Walton 61st at 13:09 and Junior Gallardo 65th at 13:34.

Seventy-five runners competed inthe varsity boys division.

On the girls side, Kristen Butterworth was third with a clocking of 13:05.80.

Shelbie Schneider was 30th, Lizzie Marr 31st, Hope Obstot 33rd, Tyler Gibson 37th, Shelbie Anders 38th and Faith Onstot 43rd.

There were 61 girls running in the varsity girls race.

Taylor was the boys champion and Caldwell took the girls title.

Thorndale was sixth on both sides.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
