Cameron sweeps out Lady Tigers in mini bell battle

Spikers still adjusting for district play

Reporter/Marie Bakken Rockdale fell in three sets on Friday night to Class 2A No. 14 Cameron Lady Yoe in the volleyball version of “Battle of the Bell”.

The Lady Tigers fell 13-25, 16-25, 14-25 and are now 5-14 on the season.

Rockdale coach Jason Williams has switched things up a bit, using senior Bailey Pannell and junior Marissa Mireles as setters instead of back row specialists.

Victoria Drake led the team in many statistical columns against the Lady Yoe.

The senior had four kills, six digs, two aces and two assists. Junior Lisa Vest had four kills and three blocks.

“The girls are doing better in their decision making,” Williams said. “In these two weeks before district, we are going back to fundamentals and building our base stronger.”

The Lady Tigers had an open date on Tuesday night.

Rockdale will host Granger on Saturday, Sept. 17 for three games starting at 11 a.m. The teams will then travel to Taylor on Tuesday, Sept. 20 where the Lady Tigers will play the Lady Ducks in three gamessetfora5p.m.start.

It will be the last tune up game before league play begins Friday, Sept. 23. at Caldwell (14-9-1).

Defending 23-3A champion LaGrange (20-1) is ranked No. 8 in the state in Class 3A.
