TxDOT work in north Milam this week
CAMERON—Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews will conduct base repairs on FM 2268 from the Bell County line to FM 437 through Thursday in Milam County.
Motorists should plan for brief stops in the construction zone where flaggers and a pilot vehicle will direct traffic through one lane. Full Story
Kirk Memorial Run Saturday at The Ranch
A memorial run to raise money for a headstone for the late Tim “T. K.” Kirk is set for Saturday, Sept. 24, beginning at The Ranch, according to Charles Starr, organizer.
“First bike out is at 11 a.m. and all bikes, trikes, cars and trucks are welcome,” he said. There will be four stops during the day. Full Story
Thorndale council reschedules budget vote
THORNDALE—Thorndale city council members decided to reschedule their vote to adopt the city’s 2011-2012 budget after the public hearing on the matter during the entity’s meeting Sept. 14.
The budget of $1,103,970 is based on a tax rate of 84 cents per $100 valuation. The city has no debt, so the entire rate is for maintenance and operations. Full Story
La Escuelita plans cookoff for Oct. 1st
The ninth annual La Escuelita Fall Cookoff, is set for Oct. 1 on the grounds of the former school, east of Rockdale on US 79.
Cookoff begins at 8 a.m. and cookers may set up at 7. Categories will be beef/chicken/pork, menudo, chili and beans.

MARC open house planned for Oct. 2
The board of directors of the Milam Adult Resource Center (MARC) will host an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the MARC Center, 1705 Pecos, according to Judy Hudson, spokesperson.
“The community is invited to come and tour the newly-expanded facility and to share in refreshments and a time of visiting with friends and neighbors,” she said. Full Story
Trustees set Monday workshop, hearing
Rockdale ISD trustees will hold a public hearing and workshop at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Central Administration Building.
Agenda items include accepting bids on oil, gas and mineral lease on a tract of land owned by the district. They will also undergo a legal update training during the workshop. Full Story
