City trash collection switch gets final okay
Once-a-week pickup to begin in January with increased cost
It’s official. Rockdale will switch from twice- a-week to once- a-week garbage pickup on Jan. 1.
And the city is also switching its trash pickup firm after a pair of 5-0 votes Tuesday by council members changed the service from Waste Management to IESI. Full Story

Indictments include ex-blue chipper
A former blue-chip RHS gridder, who had once been headed for a college football career, was indicted for sexual assault Thursday by a Milam County grand jury.
Derek Tremayne David, 18, was one of 18 persons indicted, according to Prosecutor Kerry Spears. Full Story
Fair livestock entries up; tickets now on sale
36th Annual Rockdale Fair Oct. 20-22
Entries are up in most divisions of the 36th annual Rockdale Fair’s market livestock show and sale.
The Fair, scheduled for Oct. 20-22 at Fair Park, is now less than a month away and the Oct. 15 Miss Rockdale Fair Queen and children’s pageants are two weeks from Saturday. Full Story
Run (or not) for the Kay set downtown Saturday morning
The sixth annual Kay Theatre Walk/Run/Unrun will unreel Saturday, beginning at the theatre, corner of Main and Davilla downtown.
The annual event raises funds for restoration of the 1940s-era theatre as a community and cultural center. Full Story
