Rally round the flag, boys

This flag hasn’t unfurled in a real battle in 146 years but it led the Milam County Grays into simulated battle Saturday at Apache Pass. The Civil War reenactment was part of the first Central Texas Hunting & Outdoor Expo, sponsored by the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce. The flag represents a real Confederate unit, Company G of the Fifth Texas Infantry which was composed of Milam County volunteers. The Milam County Grays and Fredericksburg Cavalry conducted the reenactment, part of a two-day event which also included food, a pageant, music, a barbecue cookoff and more. See more photos, results, page 1B.
