MILANO—It was a fight to the finish and the Eagles finished on top as Milano stayed unbeaten on the season with a surprising 27-25 win the Chilton Pirates on Friday night at Pruett Field.

With their well documented coaching and personnel changes, most football experts had the Rockdale Tigers penciled in for a long vacuous season.

Lady Tigers drop into 0-2 hole to start district play
Caldwell, Smithville handle spikers in league openers
The Rockdale Lady Tigers have now opened up District 23-3A play, dropping their first two matching in league action this week.
The girls were swept on the road Tuesday night at Smithville 13-25, 16-25, 21-25.
Jill Young had four kills and six digs on the night, with Shelby Evans added four kills and two blocks. Full Story

Thorndale upset by Lexington Tuesday night at home
It was a night of the unbeatens with the winner taking sole possession of first place in District 26A.
On Tuesday night at Geneva Paceley Gym, the No. 15 Milano Lady Eagles wanted it more.
They swept defending district champion and No. 25 Thrall in three sets 25-21, 25-17, 25-23 and move to 5-0 in league play and 20-8 on the season. Thrall is now 4-1 in district action. Full Story
Schneider Memorial roping, BBQ cookoff this weekend
The 16th annual Maggie Schneider Memorial scholarship fund team roping and barbecue cookoff jackpot fund-raiser is set Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, according to organizer Richard Schneider.
The events will be held at the Joey & Phyllis Hiney Ranch Arena in the Salty Community, Schneider said. Full Story
Area cross countr y runners double up at Navasota, Cameron meets
Area cross country runners hit the ground running this past week, competing in meets at Navasota and Cameron.
Juan Rubio started up where he left off last season by dominating the competition.
Rubio took first at Navasota after clocking in at 15:12. He was also first in Cameron with a time of 16:12. Full Story
