Area cross countr y runners double up at Navasota, Cameron meets

CROSS COUNTRY


Juan Rubio Juan Rubio Area cross country runners hit the ground running this past week, competing in meets at Navasota and Cameron.

Juan Rubio started up where he left off last season by dominating the competition.

Rubio took first at Navasota after clocking in at 15:12. He was also first in Cameron with a time of 16:12.

Fransisco Romo was sixth in Navasota with a time of 17:03, while Benito Costillo was ninth at 17:13 and Stephan Hinojosa was 35th in 23:56.

In Cameron, Romo was 21st with a time of 18:43 and Costillo was 29th at 19:45.

In the junior varsity section, John Rivers was fourth at Navasota and 12th at Cameron, while Cale Garza was fifth at Navasota and 21st in Cameron.

Suzi Arvizu took 8th for the girls JV.

“We are still building and looking forward to being ready for district,” said Coach Liz McQuitter.

Thorndale

The Thorndale girls were second to Academy at the Cameron Meet.

Kristen Butterworth placed as third medalist with a time of 13:07.

She was followed by Shelbie Schneider in 14th in 14:38; Faith Onstot 15th in 14:39.4; Hope Onstot 16th at 14:39.8; Marlene Hall 25th in 15: 02; Shelbie Anders 28th at 15:30; Lizzie Marr 35th in 16:13

JV—Taylor Smith-16th 15:56 Gabby Moreno-17th 15:59 Shelbie Thomason-26th 16:42 Paige Brevard-54th 20:35 Sydney Brevard-56th 20:44.
