Lady Tigers drop into 0-2 hole to start district play

Caldwell, Smithville handle spikers in league openers

The girls were swept on the road Tuesday night at Smithville 13-25, 16-25, 21-25.

Jill Young had four kills and six digs on the night, with Shelby Evans added four kills and two blocks.

Victoria Drake had six digs and two aces, while Bailey Pannell had six assists.

Rockdale is now 0-2 in district action and 6-17 on the season.

In the Lady Tigers’ district opener on Friday night at Tiger Gym, the fell in straight sets to an always tough Caldwell team 4-25, 16-25, 14-25.

Victoria Drake led the team with six kills and Marissa Mireles set six assists. Young was big on the defensive end with 11 digs, as was Ashtyn Simank with two blocks.

Caldwell improved to 19- 9 and 2-0.

In subvarsity action on Friday, the junior varsity lost in three 27- 25, 10-25, 18-25. Emily McCoy had served four points and Kelsey Ford three.

The freshmen team won in three, 22-25, 25-18, 25-15. Maxie Vann served seven points, Kallie Hicks served six and Bethany Miller and Lexus Garcia four each.

The Lady Tigers are on the road again Friday as they travel to face Giddings with games set to start at 4:30 p.m.

Rockdale is back home again on Tuesday as they face league leading and No. 7 LaGrange.
