Kay run raises $5,000 for restoration
Perfect weather greets 75 participants on Saturday
The sixth annual Kay Theatre 5K Run/Unrun grossed $ 5,000 toward restoration of the Rockdale landmark as about 60 persons participated in the event Saturday.
That means the event has raised about $48,000 in its four-year history. The previous five runs netted a combined $43,000. Full Story

I know BM and I used to stay at a hotel somewhere probably every other month. Since we took short trips, we felt like we were “saving” money.

Fun times in downtown during city’s annual Fall Fest
Our small city had a very busy weekend. All of the food vendors made sure the aroma of barbecue and sausage wraps were in the air. The Texas Minirod Tractor Pull was great and loud as usual. The crowd enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone that helped. The Milano VFD Ladies Auxiliary had a great weekend sale. Their proceeds are used to help our volunteer firemen. Full Story
Harold and Shandy Jones of Rockdale announce the birth of their son, Bentley Wayne Jones, at 3:32 p.m. Sept. 12, 2011, at St. Mark’s Hospital in LaGrange, weighing 8 pounds, 6.3 ounces and measuring 19 inches long. He is welcomed by siblings Serena, Tyler and Alissa. Grandparents are Alice Jones of Brenham and Frances Solomon of Rockdale. Full Story

Central Texas bake-off, food show Saturday

Escuelita hosts ninth annual cookoff
La Escuelita, the site of Rockdale’s historic former Hispanic school, hosted the ninth annual Fall Cookoff on Saturday.
In addition to cookoff divisions, the day also featured horseshoe and washer tournaments, music and lots of visiting.

Gause 4-H’ers earn awards at banquet
The annual Milam County 4- H Celebration was held on Saturday at the Thorndale Fireman’s Hall. There were several 4-Hers from the Gause club who participated on the program. They were Seth Vinton, Calla Vinton, Cameron Cooper, Kendall Lee and Garrett Reed. Full Story
