Smith

Funeral ser v ices for J. J. Smith, 96, of Rockdale were held Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Graveside services were held Monday, Oct. 3, in Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston. Minister Ray Don McIntosh officiated.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday, Sept 28, at his home in Rockdale.

He was born Sept. 26, 1915, in Clark County, Mississippi, to William Elanzo and Sarah Elizabeth (Anderson) Smith.

Mr. Smith had lived the past four years in Rockdale with his son.

He was a self-employed floor installer for 28 years and a farmer for 24 years.

He married Ola Mae Crocker in October 1938, in Sunflower County, Mississippi.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Ola Mae, on Jan. 12, 2004, in Houston; a brother, Benjamin Smith; four sisters, Elizabeth Alexander, Jane Perkins, Onie McCool and Emador Miller.

Surviving are two sons, Weldon Smith and wife MauRita of Rockdale, Gary Smith and wife Dorothy of Cameron; a daughter, Pat Heflin and husband Clay of Sterling Park, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Lynita Conaway and Mark of Belton, Regina Schneider and Darin of Taylor, Troy Smith and Taresa of Rockdale, Gayla Heflin of Virginia, Therese Manthey and Don of Sterling, Virginia, Jay Smith and Jana of Deer Park, Scott Smith of Cameron, Danielle Fugler and Allen of Claremont, Florida; and 10 great- grandchildren, Amanda Ruiz, Megan Smith, Steven Conaway, Tristan Lewis, Nicole Smith, Sophia Smith, Jordyn Smith, Jena Smith, Kylie Manthey and James Manthey.

Pallbearers were Darrell Mann, Jay Smith, Scott Smith, Troy Smith, Gary Smith and Weldon Smith.
