Tire collection slated Saturday in Rockdale

An old tire collection will be held at Precinct 3 county barn in Rockdale on Saturday, according to Commissioner Dale Jaecks.

Jaecks said the collection will get under way at 8 a.m.

“We will accept only tires no more than 54 inches tall and 15 inches wide,” Jaecks said.

The tire collection is for resident of Milam County.

Autism benefit ahead Saturday at Apache Pass

A music-art campout event at Apache Pass Saturday is billed as a celebration for families living with autism.

The “Big Sky Fest” will feature bands, artists, face painting, games and activities.

Amy Fatheree, spokesperson, said Special Olympics, Scott & White and others are donating time for the non-profit event.

Musicians include Saturnino Vargas, Sarah Dinan, The Zip Disks, Hippy-punk-stockings & Tspp, Music Grand Effect, Lennings, Graham Wilkinson and Six Seasons Band.

Apache Pass is located eight miles northwest of Rockdale on FM 908.

Line flushing ahead Wednesday in city

City of Rockdale crews will flush water lines in both east and west sections of town overnight, Wednesday, Oct. 12, according to City Manager Kelvin Knauf.

Knauf reminded residents to run their cold water taps upon arising the next morning until the stream runs clear to remove any sediment from the lines which may have been stirred up by the flushing process.

The city f lushes water lines once a month in an attempt to clean the lines, and system.

Museum’s gift shop slates grand opening

CAMERON—The Milam Count y Museum will hold a grand opening for its Treasure Chest Gift Shop at the museum’s new location this weekend.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 11 a. m. to 3 p. m. Saturday.

The museum’s new location is 112 East First in Cameron.

All proceeds support the Milam County Museum complex on the courthouse square.

School trustees set meeting for Monday

Rockdale ISD trustees will host a public hearing on school improvement plans for Rockdale High School and Rockdale Junior-High School at 5:30 p.m. Monday as part of their regular monthly session.

Supt. Dr. Howell Wright said the district will also consider joining school finance litigation and engaging Thompson & Horton LLP.

Board members will hear reports on TAKS tests and the student drug testing program.

Thorndale trustees join school finance lawsuit

THORNDALE—School trustees in the Thorndale ISD voted Monday to join other districts throughout the state in litigation concerning Texas school finance.

Trustees okayed a one-timeonly expenditure not to exceed one dollar per weighted average daily attendance (WADA) for the litigation.

Ride For the Cure set for August 29th

The second annual Ride For the Cure, benefitting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, is set for Oct. 29 at Cliff’s Tavern in downtown Rockdale.

Categories include motorcycles, hot rods and antique cars. Price is $20 per ride or $24 with passenger and includes a meal.

Chili “to go” sale starts at 11 a.m., priced at $5.

First bike out is at 11 a.m., last bike in will be 4 p.m.

Downtown Association sets members meeting

Rockdale Downtown Association will hold its membership meeting at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Patterson Center.

“Please join us for fellowship, food and drink, hear our accomplishments and share your interest in the future of downtown,” Mary Lee Dyess, spokesperson, said.

Minerva community schedules meeting

The Minerva community will hold its annual community center meeting and trustee election at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the community center.

MCAD directors to meet Oct. 20 in Cameron

CAMERON—The Milam County Appraisal District board of directors will meet in regular session at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the MCAD’s Cameron offices, according to Chief Appraiser Pat Moraw.

Agenda items include appointment of a new appraisal review board (ARB) member, naming of a new ARB chairman and secretary and appointment of a temporary ARB members.

The chief appraiser’s performance will also be evaluated.

Flu shots offered at several locations

CAMERON— Scott & White Pharmacy in Cameron, will give out free flu shots from 9 a.m. to 12-noon and 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17, according to Lanette Frock, spokesperson.

“Shots are available to everyone, even if you don’t have Scott & White insurance,” she said.

• Medicine Chest Pharmacy, 1525 West Cameron (US 79), is offering flu shots. The pharmacy is open Monday through Friday 8:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12-noon.

• Little River Medical Clinic, 602 North Main has shots weekdays, 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m.

• Milam County Health Department has adult flu shots on the following schedules: Rockdale (One-Stop Center), Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 to 4 p.m.; Cameron (209 South Houston), Mondays and Wednesdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
