The Reporter quoted t he neighboring Thorndale Thorn as reporting that two cousins from Salty attempted to practice a musical number but the rehearsal ended in a knife fight, sending one to the hospital. Full Story
Texas treasurer was the other Jesse James
Jesse James, a native of Milam County, lived in Sand Grove, Big Lump and Rockdale, before moving to Thorndale, where he grew up.
James worked his way through college, was a merchant in his home county and married Zala Bell.
They were living in Thorndale, where his wife taught school, when he was appointed assistant state treasurer by Charley Lockhart in 1937. Full Story
