Tiger freshmen drop first game of year

The Rockdale freshman team suffered its first setback of the season after being blanked by Navasota 35-0 to slide to 5-1 on the year.

The Rattlers dialed up long distance to handle the Tigers, scoring four of their five touchdowns from at least 50 yards away.

According to coaches, Hayden Offield, Derek Whitsel and Dillan Ford were the standouts.

The junior varsity’s late comeback bid fell short in their 25-14 loss to Navasota.

Trailing 25-0 in the final period, the Tigers (1-5) struck twice, with Kartavious Burton finding Ladontice Coates with a 45-yard hookup. The Tigers crossed the goal line again after James Castelleja punched it in from the two-yard line.

Coaches said Castelleja, Ramsey Zinn, Darius Ford, Jamar Hopkins, Drevonne Walton and Jose Abila were the leaders.
