Veteran ball strikers bag Lions Tourney


Winners of the 21st annual Noon Lions Scholarship Golf Tournament were the team of Billy Boyd, Mark Michalka, Allan Jones, Billy Galbreath and Tommy Grimes Winners of the 21st annual Noon Lions Scholarship Golf Tournament were the team of Billy Boyd, Mark Michalka, Allan Jones, Billy Galbreath and Tommy Grimes Fighting off a 30 mile per hour cross wind, a veteran group of golfers captured the championship at the 21st annual Noon Lions Club Scholarship Golf Tournament Saturday at Rockdale Country Club.

The tourna- ment raised approxi- mately $ 2 , 0 0 0 for college scholar- ships for local youth.

“ The Lion’s Club including tourney committee Allan Miller, Randy Fletcher, Paul Dixon, Albert Jordan and Kathy Martin would like to thank all of the sponsors and players for their generous support,” said tournament chairman Ron Montgomery. “Special thanks to Doug Ellis for such a beautiful Rockdale golf course and Homer Mowdy and the Country Club staff for their help in preparation for the tourney.”

Team winners were:

1st place (62)—Allan Jones, Mark Michalka, Eddie Boyd, Billy Galbreath and Tommy Grimes.

2nd place (64)—Homer Mowdy, Wallace Jones, Joe Wayne Cleveland, Nathan Bland and John Magee, (won on a scorecard playoff)

3rd place (64)—Dino David, Jeff King, Floyd Byrd and Howell Wright

Prize winners included:

Closest to the pin—Billy Galbreath; Most accurate—Allan Jones.

“Thanks again from the Rockdale Noon Lions Club for all who helped with the success of the tourney and all the players and sponsors who participated,” said Montgomery.
