Funeral services for Arnold Coulton “Blackie” Doss, 89, were held Monday, Oct. 17, in Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Rick Hertless of Meadowbrook Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed in IOOF Cemetery in Rockdale.
Mr. Doss died Friday, Oct. 14, at his son’s home in Yorktown, were he has lived these past 11 years.
He was born on May 5, 1922, in Milam County to Richard Antonio Doss and Emma Elizabeth Brown Doss.
Mr. Doss was raised in the Gay Hill community and attended the Gay Hill Community School.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S.Navy.
Mr. Doss was a longtime rancher and farmer, worked at Superior Dairies and John Roberts Ring Co., was a concrete contractor in Rockdale and was a trapper for the U.S. Government, stationed at Langtry.
He was a member of the VFW in Rockdale and Karnes City, the Sons of Hermann, Woodman of the World and the Moose Lodge in Austin.
On July 17, 1947, he married Doris Elloie Gifford in Cameron.
Mr. Doss was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, in August 1977; his daughter, Doris Bell Colston, in 2008; and six siblings, Irene Allen, Ola Bell Crump, Emory Doss, Dan Doss, Nolan Doss and James Doss.
Survivors are a son, Ricky Doss and wife Nell of Yorktown; a daughter, Deborah Kaye Gage of Kingsbury; a son-in-law, Jerry Colston of Rockdale; his grandchildren, Carrie Lynn Hefner, Amanda Elloie Daigle, Coulter Moses Gage, David Scott Gage, J.D. Wauer, Cyndi Wauer, Sara Wauer, Robert Allen Doss, Michael Louis Doss and Michael David Doss; and his great- grandchildren, Brent Hefner, Cortland Hefner, Nathan Hefner, Brandyn Gage, Coulter Gage, Jarrett Daigle, Kerry Daigle, Kasey Daigle, Gabhan Gage, James Wauer, Brittany Gray, Adam Izatt Gill, Quinten Wauer, Faith Wauer, and Jacob Wauer; also, three great-great-grandchildren.
