Ribbon cutting, champagne mixer set for Thursday

CHAMBER NEWS
Deedra Jacob

Hello Rockdale. I hope all of you had a fun and exciting Rockdale Fair weekend. The Chamber received an award this weekend! Best decorated float in the Fair Parade. I would personally like to thank Elisha Betchan and Denice Doss for helping me with that and Hunter Matula for driving the float with the fair queens and king aboard.

This weekend the city is sponsoring their “Stash Your Trash” day from 8 a.m. to noon. Containers will be at the Fair Park for free disposal of miscellaneous household items (old furniture, mattresses, etc.) There will also be free wood chipping for limbs four inches or smaller. No motor oil or tires will be accepted. So this is the weekend to clean out that garage, shop, storage building, etc. Please call City Hall at 446-2511 with questions.

The Milam County Area Go Texan Scholarship fundraiser is also this Saturday at the KC Hall starting at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.

From 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, the Chamber will be sponsoring a ribbon cutting and champagne mixer for Garden Treasures and Landscaping Materials located at 1207 W. Cameron. They are right next door to Bob’s Speedy Lube. The proud new owners are Bob and Deborah Stephens.

What a unique and special little business this is. They have garden and yard art, stained glass, bird feeders, and some of the most unique water fountains I have ever seen. They have many different cacti, agave, and Texas palms to enhance your yard’s landscaping. As well as organic fertilizer, mulch, compost, top soil, river rock, pea gravel, and crushed limestone. They will construct custom raised beds and planters.

Bob has made some of the most amazing cedar benches. They are so different and truly a work of art. The sounds of the water fountains and the wind chimes were so relaxing. It was truly a relaxing and peaceful experience to go visit their new shop. Please come by on Thursday evening and see what they have to offer and congratulate the Stephens on what looks to be a very successful venture.
