GOLDEN GIRL OF THE WEEK— Haley Leopold, a senior at Rockdale High School was selected as dancer of the week for the RHS Golden Girls drill team. She is the daughter of Paul and Regina Leopold. Rockdale High School will host a parent meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the high school auditorium for parents of “Freshman Academy” students, principal Joey Geletka announced.

Representatives from Manor Academy will be here to discuss Project Based Learning. All freshman parents are encouraged to attend this informative meeting. For questions, contact Geletka at 512- 430- 6140.

Area residents earn Temple College degrees

TEMPLE— Several area students earned degrees or certificates during the summer at Temple College. Those completing their requirements either earned an associate of arts (AA) degree, associate of applied science (AAS) degree or a certificate of completion. No formal graduation ceremony was held, but the graduates will be invited to participate in the May commencement program.

Local graduates include:

ROCKDALE— Christina Coker, AA; Ray Gilligan, AAS; Rita Johnson, certificate.

CAMERON— Kimberly Boyett, AA; Stacy Lewis, certificate.

LEXINGTON— Sarah Lay, AA.

THORNDALE— Anna Hendrickson, AA.

Golden Girl quilt fundraiser through Friday

The Rockdale High School Golden Girls drill team is selling tickets to win a “Golden Girl” quilt made by Georgia Roland Zamora. Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased at all Rockdale home football games or from any current Golden Girl member.

The quilt will be awarded at halftime of the Rockdale- Giddings football game on Oct. 28.

Big Blue Band holding car wash Saturday

Rockdale High School’s Big Blue Band is having a car wash on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Edward Jones building next to Brookshire Brothers, according to director of bands Adrian Acebedo.

The car wash will start at 8:30 a.m. and cars will be washed for donations. Funds are being raised to help the band go on the Disneyworld trip next summer.

Golden Girl campers to

perform on Oct. 28

All little girls that participated in the Golden Girls Mini Camp in August will perform pregame at the Oct. 28 Rockdale home football game, assistant director Sarah Cleveland anounced.

“Please meet at 6:45 p.m. at the football field behind the weight room. Wear your mini camp T-shirt,” Cleveland said.

Thorndale PTO sets carnival Saturday

THORNDALE—The Thorndale Elementary P-TO carnival is set for 5- 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at the school. In addition to fun and games, the group will also host a health fair at the event.
