Freshmen team continues winning ways, now 7-1

THURSDAY: The junior varsity and freshmen travel to Giddings with the first game at 5 p.m. The junior high Tigers host Giddings with the first game starting at 4:30 p.m.

The Rockdale freshman team jumped out to a 33-0 lead and then held on for a 33-6 victory over LaGrange to improve their season mark to 7-1.

Hayden Offield sparked the Tigers by scoring from close in (two yards) and long distance (82 yards) to push the Tigers ahead 14-0.

Dillon McCartney found Dillon Bankston for a 40-yard Double D hookup to go up 21-0 to start the second quarter.

Derek Whitsel measured off a run of 10 yards for a 27-0 bulge and McCartney closed out the Tiger scoring on a four-yard score and a 33-0 halftime lead.

According to coaches, Offield, Whitsel, Michael Boyd, Justin Offield and Kyle Williams were the standouts on offense.

On defense, Tyler Land, Javier Mayberry, Preston Ehler and Cade Phillips were the leaders.

Junior varsity

A late comeback bid fell short in the junior varsity’s 36-14 loss to LaGrange.

Trailing 29-0, Kartavious Burton hit Darius Ford with a 45- yard aerial for the Tigers (1-7) first score in the third quarter.

After a Drevonne Walton interception, James Castelleja rammed over from the two for a score in the fourth quarter.

Offensively, Ford, Wesley Payne and Burton were standouts, while Walton, Castelleja, Jose Abila and Ramsey Zinn were leaders on defense.
