Milam Retired Teachers to meet here on Nov. 9

Milam County Retired Teachers Association’s next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Peace Lutheran Church fellowship hall in Rockdale and will be a Thanksgiving covered dish luncheon.

Hospital Auxiliary fall bake sale set Friday

Members of the Richards Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will hold their fall bake sale Friday, Oct. 28, featuring cookies and bread products.

“We will be starting our sale at the hospital at 9 a.m. and will have some Auxiliary members going to local business to sell cookies,” said Amy Howeth, Auxiliary vice-president.

Milano Jamboree ahead Saturday

MILANO—The monthly Milano Junction Country Jamboree will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Milano Civic Center.

“All musicians and listeners are invited and admission is free,” said Tena Galbreath, publicist. “Refreshments will be available.”

Donate used books for sale at city library

Friends of the Library wants your unwanted books for their upcoming Used Book Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 in the city library and outside on the library sidewalks.

Used and readable books (paperback and hard cover) can be dropped off during library hours—Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Helpers for sale day are also needed. Contact Ann King (446-3773) or Annette Stone (446-3963).

Friends of the Library provide funds for Children’s Summer Reading, sponsor authors in the library during the Tejas Festival, and support other literary programs in the community.

“Your used books will help continue their efforts to encourage learning,” Stone said.

Manor Oaks Halloween carnival set Thursday

Manor Oaks Nursing & Rehab Center will host their annual Halloween Carnival on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 6 until 8 p.m.

There will be a costume contest, cake walk, caramel apples, ring toss, face painting, duck pond, foam dart gun and prizes.

“Everyone is invited and we are hoping for a great turnout from the community,” said Missy Morse, director of community relations.

Milano Lions to award prizes at game Friday

MILANO— Milano Evening Lions Club is holding its 2011 fund-raiser now through Oct. 28. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5. Prizes are Walmart gift cards of $350, $250 and $ 50. Drawing will be Friday, Oct. 28 at the Milano High School football game. Buy tickets from any Lions member.

Grief support meetings held twice monthly

CAMERON—Standards Hospice is holding Grief Support Group meetings at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays, Oct. 27, Nov. 10 and 24 and Dec. 8 and 22.

“The meetings will continue into 2012,” according to Greg Nichols, chaplain. Meeting location is 115 N. Central in Cameron.

Sunshine quilters to meet Thursday

Sunshine ‘n Shadows Quilt Guild will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27 in the fellowship hall of Meadowbrook Baptist Church, according to Eddie Davidson, spokesperson.
