IT'S ONLY A TEST

Rockdale Police are pleading with local resident to please not call 911 when their televisions and radios test a nationwide alert system at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9.
“Everybody is saying this is going to stress the 911 system if people don’t know what’s happening in advance,” Lt. J. D. Newlin told The Reporter.
While the nationwide Emergency Alert System is supposed to clearly state Wednesday’s alert is only a test, most entities are bracing for the worst.
“What we don’t want to happen is for the 911 system to get overloaded because of this drill and someone not be able to notify us if there’s a real emergency,” Newlin said.
The test is expected to last at least 30 seconds.
