Deputies probe scam attempts, illegal dumping, burn violation

Two attempted scams were investigated during the past week by the Milam County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputy Eddy Veracruz investigated an attempted phone scam at 10:49 a.m. Friday on CR 328 south of Milano.

Deputy Lee Dixon checked out a scam reported at 12:15 p.m. Oct. 26 on County Road 218 near Cameron.

The department also was called to a reported burn ban violation at 6:38 p.m. Sunday near FM 485 and an illegal trash dumping incident at 10:40 a.m. Friday on FM 908 south of Rockdale.

Thirty-eight calls for livestock running loose were answered by the department, averaging more than five calls a day.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
