Schools plan programs for veterans

Nov. 11 is Veterans Day and all four Rockdale ISD campuses are planning observances, including the return of a Rockdale tradition.

Elementar y and intermediate students will combine in the elementary gym at 2 p.m. that day for a program of patriotic music, according to Principals Sandee Calame and Kathy Pelzel.

There will also be a morning program.

Before the new intermediate school was constructed west of town, and the campuses were separated, the annual elementary Veterans Day program was the largest in town, routinely drawing crowds of over 900 students, veterans and interested persons.

It was also more than a little warm, even in November. But this time around marks the first fall for the elementary gym to be air conditioned. That project was completed during the summer.

A program of patriotic music will be presented by students.

RHS, RJH— The annual

Rockdale High School salute to veterans will be presented at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 11 in the RHS auditorium, according to Principal Joey Geletka.

Rockdale area veterans will be honored and the winners in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525 Voice of Democracy contest will be recognized.

More details on the program will be announced next week.

A luncheon for veterans and their spouses follows at 12-noon in the junior- high commons, according to Principal April Eschberger.

Veterans planning to attend are asked to call the school, 430-6100 before Wednesday, Nov. 9, so cooks will know how many meals to prepare.

A musical program by the RJH band will be presented.
