Area praised for help during oil rig blowout

Dear editor,

To the people of Burleson and Milam Counties:

I want to personally thank the people of northern Burleson and southern Milam Counties for the extraordinary help and kindness extended to me and Slawson Exploration’s crews last week while we worked to control the blowout and fire at our Polzer No. 1-H wellsite in Milam County.

I am extremely thankful that no one was injured in this incident or in our efforts to regain control of the well and put out the fire.

I appreciate the patience exhibited by all those in the surrounding area who were affected by road closures, smoke and oil droplets.

We continue to work to clean up the affected property.

I am especially appreciative of the efforts of the workers who worked around the clock, putting themselves in harm’s way to provide services and materials required to fight this fire.

Finally, I want to personally thank Sheriff David Greene, his dedicated staff, and the Department of Public Safety officers who were on location 24/7 providing security, ensuring the safety of the public and nearby residents and bringing calm to the community while the well was out of control.

The residents of Milam County are very lucky to have law enforcement officials with cool heads and big hearts serving your community.

I look forward to many more visits to your area, hopefully under much better circumstances.

Very truly yours,
Steve Slawson,
Vice President-Operations
Slawson Exploration Company
