It’s time to gear up for the holiday season

Hello, Rockdale. Last week we had a ribbon cutting for Ivy Lane. A new antique and gift shop located downtown in the front of Integrity Real Estate office. Elaine Gerren is the owner and I am excited for her and know it will be a great addition to the Rockdale downtown shopping experience.

On Saturday, the MDD had a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Rockdale entrance sign located in front of the Rockdale airport right off of US 77. It will hopefully be one of four signs that will welcome people to Rockdale from all four entrances to the city. I am excited and can’t wait to see the first completed sign.

This Saturday is the Historical Society’s Chili Dinner at the New Salem Clubhouse at Fair Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The annual Turkey Giveaways will be starting soon. Be ready for that.

The Chamber is gearing up for our annual Christmas weekend. The theme this year is “An Old Fashioned Christmas in Old Towne Rockdale.” We currently have vendor applications on our website and at our office. The downtown stores will be open late on Friday and on Saturday all day and will be offering Wassail to all visitors.

Friday night we will have a children’s parade. The children can dress up in their favorite Christmas outfit. There will also be a dog show on Saturday morning with cash prizes going to the top winners. There will be entertainment and children’s activities throughout the weekend as well as a special visit from Santa and Ms. Claus themselves at the Train Depot.

The festivities will end with a lighted parade on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Please call the chamber at 446-2030 or visit our website, www.rockdalechamber.com, for more information.

Rockdale will have their annual New Year’s Eve dance again this year with TUB (Texas Unlimited Band) for this year’s entertainment. Tickets can be purchased on our website as well as at the chamber. Doors will open at 8 p.m. with the band performing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Snack and party favors are included in ticket prices as well as all your beer and set-ups. Come out and enjoy a fun New Year’s Eve without having to travel out of town. Please call the chamber at 446-2030 or visit the website, www.rockdalechamber.com, for more information.

The Rockdale Rotary Club is sponsoring a food drive for the Rockdale Food Bank. You can bring non-perishable food to the Chamber. All food will be turned in on Nov. 16. Thank you in advance for your donations. Deedra Jacob is the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce president. Email her at djacob@rockdalechamber.com or phone 446-2030.
