Mekush benefit slated Saturday at Fair Park

Milam County Cowboy Church’s annual ranch rodeo, set for Saturday in the Roping & Cutting Club Arena at Fair Park, will be a benefit for Cameron area resident Della Mekush.

Mekush was seriously injured in a fall from a horse Aug. 19.

Rev. Greg Spears, pastor, said there will be activities during the day for all ages, including dummy roping. He said chute roping will be held from 12-noon to 2 p.m.

The ranch rodeo gets under way at 6 p.m.

There w ill be a silent auction, live auction and door prizes. Admission is by donation.

Donations sought for annual lunch

Organizers of the annual Community Outreach free Thanksgiving lunch, to be hosted by New Hope Baptist Church Nov. 19 at the New Salem Clubhouse in Fair Park, need more donations and volunteer helpers.

“ We need volunteers along with cash donations, frozen turkeys and canned goods,” Doug Williams, spokesperson, said.

To assist the effort, or place someone on the delivery list, call 446-7296, 760- 5241 or 446-4172.

Last year the effort provided about 1,000 turkey dinners for the elderly, shutins and needy. Goal this year is 1,200.

Kitchen work will begin at about 7:30 to 8 a.m. and deliveries will start at 11 a.m.
