Veterans Day will salute many here on Friday

Friday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day and events honoring local and area veterans literally begin at daybreak and continue through the afternoon.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525 will serve a free breakfast to veterans and the public from 7 to 9 a.m., according to Nora Adcock, VFW Auxiliary spokesperson.

The post is located near the western city limits on US 79.

SCHOOLS—The annual Rockdale High School salute to veterans w ill be presented at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the RHS auditorium, according to Principal Joey Geletka.

Rockda le area veterans w ill be honored and the winners in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525 Voice of Democracy contest will be recognized.

A luncheon for veterans and their spouses follows at 12-noon in the junior- high commons, according to Principal April Eschberger.

Elementary and intermediate students will combine in the elementary gym at 2 p.m. for a program of patriotic music, according to Principals Sandee Calame and Kathy Pelzel.

A program of patriotic music will be presented by students.

CENTER CLOSED—Because of the numerous Veterans Day activities, the Rockdale Senior Citizens Center will be closed Friday, according to Carolyn Cooper, director.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
