It’s time to give back with area food drive

Hello, Rockdale. There are so many activities coming up for our community. The Chamber is gearing up for another exciting Holiday season. Here are some of the events coming up. Please put them on your calendar. You will not want to miss them.

The Lion’s Club is sponsoring a food drive for the Food Pantry this week only. Please bring your non-perishable and canned food to the Chamber no later than noon Friday, Nov. 18 to help stock our food pantry. Rockdale is such a giving community I know that my four bags will be full by Friday so that we can help feed those in need this holiday season.

There are also bags at O’Reilly, Pam’s Beauty Shop, Classic Bank, Rockdale Federal Credit Union, Miller-Starnes Chevrolet-Buick and The Rockdale Reporter. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

The community Thanksgiving dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 at the New Salem Clubhouse at Fair Park.

Happy Thanksgiving on Nov. 24.

“Old Fashioned Christmas in Old Towne Rockdale” will take place Dec. 2-3 in downtown. Friday night we will have a children’s parade and judging, children’s activities, Relay For Life luminaries, toy collection for Christmas Round Up and local entertainment. The City tree will be lit at 6:45 on Friday night.

The downtown businesses will be open and serving refreshments as well as food vendors. There will be arts and crafts vendors too.

On Saturday, the festivities continue with a pet show from 9 a.m. to noon. Cash prizes will be given for category winners. Vendors will be open as well as local businesses from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. There will be entertainment and activities all day with Santa at the depot from 4-6 p.m.

The lighted Christmas Parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. Also that night “Crop Dusters” will be performing at The Ranch from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with all ticket sales going to Christmas Round-Up. So please come and support our local organizations and give back to our community.

Please call the Chamber at 446-2030 or visit our website at www.rockdalechamber.com for details.

A New Year’s Eve Dance will be held at the KC Hall on Dec. 31. Doors will open at 8 p.m. and a dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. will feature Texas Unlimited Band. There will be snacks and party favors provided and black-eyed peas available at midnight.

Tickets include beer and setups. Tickets are available on our website or at the chamber located at 1203 W. Cameron Ave.

Thought of the week: Progress always involves risk; you can’t steal second base and keep your foot on first.

Have a great week. Deedra Jacob is the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce president. Email her at djacob@rockdalechamber.com or phone 446-2030.
