Big election season starts Monday
Milam voters to pick sheriff, judge, prosecutor, more in 2012 slate
Monday is the first day for candidates to file in what’s looming as a huge ballot for 2012 primary voters to decide.
There are already three contested primary races, all on the Republican ballot, and 10 persons have already announced their intentions to run for county offices in 2012.

Teens in court on capital murder
Pre-trial hearing held; another in January will set date
Two Rockdale- area teens charged with the shotgun slaying of a 50-year-old San Gabriel woman in April, appeared before District Judge John Young- blood in a pret rial hearing Monday.
Prosecutor Kerry Spears has announced she will seek the death penalty for Brandon Cotton in the murder of 50-year-old Sandra “Sandy” Phillips. Full Story

Mission trip ‘life changing’ for volunteer

Dates announced for Christmas parade, decorations contest
Milano ISD is closed for the remainder of the week for Thanksgiving holidays. Classes will resume at regular times on Monday, Nov. 28.
Dates and times have been announced for the annual Christmas parade and decorating contest, both sponsored by the City of Milano. The Christmas parade will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10. Full Story

Lady Tigers off to best start since 2008-09 season
If winning translates into fun, the Rockdale Lady Tigers are having a blast.
The Lady Tigers recorded their fifth straight win to open the season, handling Austin Lanier 53-36 Tuesday night at Tiger Gymnasium.
This is the best start by a Rockdale girls team since Janet Havelka’s squad opened the 2008 season at 5-0.

Early hole too much for Eagles to claw out of
DRIPPING SPRINGS—Falls City lost 16 starters off its state championship team of 2010.
Don’t ask the Milano Eagles to feel sorry for them.
The Eagles couldn’t over come early turnovers and a little bit of nerves, falling 47-13 to the defending state champion Falls City Beavers in the Class A Division II state football playoffs. Full Story
Jobless rate drops below 10 percent
Texas, national rates fall slightly for month
Unemployment numbers across the state and in Milam County dropped slightly, according to reports released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
The unemployment rate for Milam County dropped to 9.8 percent for the month, down from 10.2 in October. That is also better than the 10.2 percent from November 2010. Full Story
