Depot, downtown focal points for Rockdale’s holiday activity this weekend
One big parade, two smaller parades, Santa and two nights (and one day) packed with fun are on tap Friday and Saturday in an “Old Fashioned Christmas in Olde Towne Rockdale.”
Rockdale’s annual night-time, lighted Christmas parade, complete with a “fire eater named Bubba,” will glitter from downtown to Fair Park at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Full Story

Six contests now assured on ballots
The first day of filing for 2012 primary elections Monday has already assured four Republican primary races and two for the general election.
Bill Torrey, Cameron attorney, filed for county-district attorney as a Republican on Monday. Incumbent Kerry Spears also filed Monday, seeking re-election as a Democrat. Full Story

Drought cuts into fall color but it’s here
There’s no doubt that Rockdale and South Milam County aren’t glowing in the morning and afternoon sun as brightly as they did last fall.

Laurrell wins field trip to D.C.
Rockdale Junior High student Lyndy Laurrell, daughter of Randy and Amy Laurrell, recently won an all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the “Lunchables-2011 Ultimate Field Trip Award.” Lyndy took both her parents, her grandfather, Vernon Gore, as well as two of her best friends Emma Pickett and Jordan Jerman along with their parents, Wendy Pickett and Debra Neal. Big Blue places six players on first-team
While Rockdale reached new heights in its passing game in 2010, two players made a particular impression on District 23-3A coaches.

Defending champion Thorndale comes in unbeaten
If things go as planned, there could be a slam-bang finish to the 2011 edition of the Lady Tiger Classic.
Host Rockdale and defending champion Thorndale are on a collision course, occupying opposite ends of the brackets which could lead to a backyard brawl. Well, maybe a backyard barbecue between two neighbors. Full Story
Thorndale Christmas parade set for Saturday afternoon
On Sunday, Nov. 27, the Thorndale Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored Christmas lot was lit. Christmas carols were sung, the band played and cookies and hot chocolate were consumed.
