Thorndale Christmas parade set for Saturday afternoon

By DARLEEN TUCKER
TACC Secretary

On Sunday, Nov. 27, the Thorndale Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored Christmas lot was lit. Christmas carols were sung, the band played and cookies and hot chocolate were consumed. The return of this important event in our holiday season was well attended and the displays were beautiful. Drive by and enjoy all the hard work done for your enjoyment.

A special thanks to co-chairs Marilyn Johnson and Angie Becker and their elves, Billye Schwarz, Bobbie Love, Rosalie Biar, Susan Drabek and Sharon Betak for their help in setting up the displays Thanks to several special donations by Toots Tiemann and Downtown Cafe for their input on the new Christmas tree. It is beautiful. Thanks also to Buddy and Marilyn Johnson, Dollar General, and Rockdale WalMart for the lighting donations and discounts.

Thanks to Keith and Kevin Kiesling for rebar cutting and setting timers and Ricky Melde for electrical expertise. A special thank you goes to all who braved the cold weather to sing carols and enjoy the start to our holiday festivities. The Communities in Concert band was an added treat and we so appreciate their music. The TACC especially thanks all groups that set up displays for all to enjoy. There will even be some additions in the next couple of days. Stop by and see if you can spot the new ones. Again, thanks to all who made this event one to remember for all citizens of Thorndale and those passing by on Highway 79.

TACC will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for Barron’s Hamburger Haven on Saturday, Dec. 10, beginning at 10 a.m. Make plans now to come out and help celebrate this new business in Thorndale. They serve hamburgers, drinks, and other delicious short orders. I know you will be full and happy when you leave.

Don’t forget that they are also interested in old photos of Thorndale. Dig through your photo collection and share your bit of history with others. They will be happy to copy your photo for their use so you don’t have to part with yours. Barron’s Hamburger Haven is located on Highway 79 next to the Christmas Lot and you can call an order in at 512-898-2300. Come out on Dec. 10, and share this redribbon day with the Barron’s.

On Saturday, Dec. 3, Santa to be in the Thorndale area so make plans now to come out and enjoy the day shopping in our local businesses all over town. I know they will appreciate your patronage. You will also be able to browse the arts and crafts booths, have your photo taken with Santa either before or after the parade in the TACC building, and then enjoy our parade which begins at 1 p.m.

A silent auction will be held in the TACC building in downtown Thorndale from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Contact Darleen Tucker at 512-898-2727 to make a donation to this event which helps raise funds for the TACC which helps promote businesses in Thorndale and bring family-friendly events to town. Check out our auction items for unique gifts for yourself or someone else.

Remember to shop locally during this holiday season, and all year long. The money you spend at local businesses stays in our community and keeps our city growing. A recent study showed that for every $100 spent at a local, independent business, $73 stays in the community. Local businesses give locally. They help support our community fund-raisers, sponsor our local teams and are always willing to help in time of need.

As always, the TACC welcomes all citizens to attend their meetings which are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. and to help with ideas to improve the business climate in Thorndale.

If you would like to become a member of the Thorndale Area Chamber of Commerce, please contact Brian Morton at 512-658-5378 or Darleen Tucker at 512-898-2727. We are now taking applications for 2012, which includes November and December 2011. Contact either Brian or Darleen to sign up to be a part of keeping Thorndale businesses growing.
