Laurrell wins field trip to D.C.
Rockdale Junior High student Lyndy Laurrell, daughter of Randy and Amy Laurrell, recently won an all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the “Lunchables-2011 Ultimate Field Trip Award.” Lyndy took both her parents, her grandfather, Vernon Gore, as well as two of her best friends Emma Pickett and Jordan Jerman along with their parents, Wendy Pickett and Debra Neal. John and Sharon Shoemake announce the birth of their newest grandson, Collin Lane Pickel, at 11:47 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center in Austin, weighing 9 pounds, 12 ounces and measuring 20½ inches long. Rockdale resident Dr. Fanny Lovelady- Spain has published a new book “No Principal Left Behind: Leadership Coaching for the 21st Century and Beyond.”

Thanksgiving services offering sends $260 to RCS Food Pantry
Rockdale’s annual Community Thanksgiving Service, sponsored by the Rockdale Ministerial Alliance and held at First Baptist Church Tuesday, Nov. 22, raised approximately $260 for the Rockdale Christian Ser vices food pantry.
Rev. Jack Chelf, host pastor and interim president of the Alliance, said the evening’s offering was donated to the RCS pantry which serves the needy. Full Story

Milano High School’s production class will give a one time only performance of “The Best Little Christmas Pageant Ever” at 7 p. m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 at the high school cafetorium. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students/ senior citizens. A silent auction will also be held. Full Story
Applications now open for new Texas Master Naturalist class
If you have an interest in wildlife and nature, then this could be for you. A Texas Master Naturalist new member training class is scheduled to begin on Friday, Feb. 10 and enrollment is now open. CAMERON— Tag-in for market hogs and breeding gilts will be 4-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5 at the Youth Exhibition Building in Cameron, livestock board secretary Gail Hollas announced.

Relay For Life to meet Dec. 8 at fire station
The Relay For Life planning committee will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department’s fire station at Wilcox and Bell streets.
Kim Jeter, event chair, said the Rockdale VFD has approved use of the station for future Relay For Life planning meetings. “We appreciate this very much,” she said. Full Story
