‘Natural causes’ suspected in death of trucker Monday

Natural causes are suspected in the death of a 38-year-old truck driver whose body was found in his truck rig at Thorndale Co-Op Monday morning.

Just ice of t he Peace Gar y Nor thcott pronounced Mark Whitaker of Franklin, Arkansas, dead at the scene and ordered an autopsy.

Northcott said Whitaker had hauled a load of hay to the Co- Op late Sunday, which was to be unloaded Monday morning.

“When Co- Op workers went out to the truck that morning they discovered his body,” Northcott said.

“There’s certainly no suspicion of foul play,” Northcott said.

CAMERON DEATH—Another truck driver died in Milam County during the week.

Ross Booth, 58, of Granbury, died Thursday in Scott & White Hospital after he was struck by a tractor-trailer rig while walking across the parking lot of Hilltop Cefco in Cameron Wednesday night in a heavy rain.

Cameron Police Chief Randy Dixon said the death has been ruled accidental.

‘RESCUE’—The Milam County Sheriff’s Department was called out to a “rescue” Thursday after a 26-year-old Gause man reported he had become lost on Sugar Loaf Mountain near Gause.

Jim Barber telephoned to say he could not find his way down the river bluff—known locally as a “mountain”—in the dark during a rain storm.

Sheriff’s deputies activated f lasher bars atop a cruiser to guide the man to safety.
