Terrell receives degree from McMurry Univ.

ABILENE—Jimmy Terrell of Lexington, has been awarded a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the school of social science and religion at McMurry University.

Terrell is one of 79 graduates who received degrees during the commencement in Radford Auditorium on Dec. 17.

Area residents earn Howard Payne honors

BROW N WO OD —Two a re a residents were recently named to Howard Payne University academic honor lists for the fall 2011 semester.

Tabitha McBride of Lexington, was named to the HPU President’s List. This accolade is for students who earn a 4.0 grade point average for the semester.

Brandon Irwin of Thorndale, was named to the HPU Dean’s List. This honor is given to studetns who maintain a grade point average bewteen 3.65 and 3.99 for the semester.

Reeves inducted into honor society at ACC

AUSTIN—Kenneth J. Reeves of Rockdale, was inducted into the Alpha Gamma Pi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Austin Community College on Dec. 3.

He is the son of Betty L. Reeves of Rockdale.

TAKS exit level test for out-of-school examinees

Rockdale High School w ill offer the TAKS Exit Level Exams in March for out-of-school (OOS) examinees, district testing coordinator Lynnette Guerra announced.

Tests dates are March 5 (social studies), March 7 (ELA), March 8 (math) and March 9 (science).

“Individuals who are no longer enrolled in school and who have not previously met minimum expectations on all sections of the TAKS test, but who have met all other graduation requirements, may register to retake the necessary sections(s),” Guerra said. “All out-of-school TAKS examinees must complete an online registration process.”

Out-of-school examinees may register online at http://www.TexasAssessment.com/TAKSoos. Registration will close at 5 p.m. Jan. 20.

All out-of-school TAKS examinees should notify the high school counselors, 512-430-6140, of their intent to test.

On the day(s) of testing, examinees should arrive by 8 a.m. and report to the high school office. Examinees must present picture identification, such as a driver’s license, school ID, DPS ID, etc. to test. Examinees will not be able to take the test(s) without a picture ID, Guerra said.

GED classes in Rockdale on hold until Jan. 9

According to Shirley Jensen, GED coordinator, all GED classes have been cancelled for the month of December.

The last class to be held before Christmas holidays at Rockdale Junior High will be on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Classes will resume on Monday, Jan. 9.
