Former RHS coach says ‘thanks for grid story’

Dear editor,

I really enjoyed Mike Brown’s most recent column in the paper.

Those articles always bring back a memory, or sometimes just a smile.

This time it was a smile, then a memory.

Your column about ties and upsets ended with the Highland Park Scotties losing to San Antonio Brackenridge in 1947.

The 1947 caught my eye because I was a junior on the Tivy High School Antlers (Kerrville) football team that year. Brackenridge was in our district and they lost only one game on their way to being state champions.

Guess who beat them on their home field in Alamo Stadium before a sold out crowd?

That was us. It was our claim to fame around there for awhile.

We just couldn’t beat Austin High to become district champs.

Nice memory. Keep ‘em coming.
