Beery earns lodge Humanitarian Award

Elein Beery of Rockdale received the 2011 Hermann Sons Humanitarian Award for volunteer service to her community on Tuesday, Dec. 13, during Cameron Lodge 140 hermann Sons annual Christmas Party and meeting.

The award is presented annually to individuals who have given of their time and talents to help others in community service.

Mrs. Beery’s volunteer projects include delivering meals- onwheels or cooking meals herself and delivering to shut-ins, visiting the elderly and driving friends to doctor appointments. She has been connected with the Love & Learning Center of Milam County and currently serves as a director and secretary.

She volunteers many hours at Rockdale Christian Services thrift shop and food pantry and also the MARC Center.

At St. John’s United Methodist Church, she serves on the congregational care committee, the education committee, is secretary to the administration board and serves as communion steward.

She also volunteers to assist with the Milam County Flu Shot Committee and was a chairman for the United Way of South Milam County.
