Grimes candidate for tax collector


Grimes Grimes Tommy Grimes has announced he will run for the office of Milam County Tax Assessor-Collector in the Democratic Primary.

His statement of candidacy follows:

Tommy Grimes, 59, announced his candidac y for the Democratic nomination for Milam County Tax A ssessor- C ol le c tor. He will be on the April, 2012, Primary Election ballot.

Grimes brings 35 years of finance experience to the race.

He graduated from Texas A&M with a business administration degree in accounting in 1973 and has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant since 1983.

He worked in leadership positions with oilfield service companies in the Houston area for more than 20 years before opening his own CPA firm in Rockdale 10 years ago.

“The office of assessor collector is vital to insure that property taxes are billed out and collected fairly and efficiently,” said Grimes. “My work experience has given me great insight into helping meet the needs of people, either in business or private activities.”

Grimes and his wife, Patricia, have lived in Milam County for 12 years. They have two children and four grandchildren.

They are members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale and he is a member of the Knights of Columbus Rockdale Council 7014. He serves on the board of the Love and Learning Day Care Center of Milam County.

He is a former treasurer of the Rockdale Lions Club and currently serves the same position with the Milano Evening Lions Club.

Grimes is also active with the Democratic Party. He served as precinct chair in Harris County for 10 years and has served as chair of Precinct 207 in Milam County for the past eight years.

“Government is important as it supplies the services which our citizens enjoy,” he said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to put my experience to work for Milam County.”
