Film workshop ahead Jan. 13th at Apache Pass

A film workshop with Carol Pirie, deputy director/program manager of the Texas Film Commission’s Film Friendly Texas Program, is set for Friday, Jan. 13 at Apache Pass.

The workshop is a project of Leadership Milam, a group charged with seeking out emerging leaders, througout the county.

“The goal for Leadership Milam 2012 is to provide a location survey with a package of pictures depicting the most unique aspscts of the county,” Paul Brian Morton, Leadership Milam member and president of the Thorndale Area Chamber of Commerce, said.

“As part of the project the workshop will educate county leaders to better understand the economic benefits of film production in our county,” he said.

South Milam VFDs answer four fire calls

Fire calls dispatched to South Milam County volunteer fire departments from the Rockdale Police Department during the past week were listed as follows:

• 2: 02 p.m. Dec. 20, utility lines down, pole broken from oversize load passing corner of FM 908 and Oak Street, Rockdale VFD.

• 4:18 p.m. Thursday, fire call, County Road 234, Milano VFD.

• 8:04 p.m. Thursday, unattended fire, CR 440 off FM 486, Thorndale VFD.

• 8:30 p.m. Thursday, tree on fire, FM 3242, Milano VFD.

AEIS hearing slated by Rockdale trustees

A hearing for public discussion of Rockdale ISD’s Academic excellence Indicator System (AEIS) is set for 5:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, in the Central Administration Building, according to Pam Kaufmann, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

“Information will be provided regarding the 2009-10 district and campus performance profiles, comparable improvement, future performance objectives and district and campus improvements plans,” she said. “All parents and community members are urged to attend.”

Vehicle registration offices closing one day

Rockda le’s Depar tment of Motor Vehicle registration offices in Milam County will close for one day to facilitate a computer upgrade, according to Tax Collector Kollette Morgan.

She said the Rockdale office will be closed Thursday, Jan. 5, and the Cameron office on Jan. 3.

“The property tax department will be open those days for payment of taxes,” she said.

“ The Texas Depar tment of Motor Vehicles is upgrading computer equipment in the tax office to help speed motor vehcle transactions,” she said.

The new equipment, will be installed on Tuesday, Jan. 3. “ This is the f irst equipment upgrade to county tax offices, statewide, since 2005.”

Morgan suggested customers c a ll t he Cameron of f ice 254- 697-7017 or the Rockdale office at 512-446-5103 to insure the installation process went smoothly on the previous day.

“ We aren’t anticipating any problems but you may want to check the registration and titling computer system before driving to our office,” Morgan said.
