Monday closings ahead for New Year’s holiday

With New Year’s Day falling on Sunday, most firms are taking Monday for the holiday.

Here’s a holiday weekend rundown:

• Classes resume Tuesday in Thorndale and Gause, Wednesday in Rockdale and Jan. 9 in Milano.

• City Hall will be closed Monday. No change in city library schedule. It’s always closed Mondays.

• Financial institutions and the post office will be closed on Monday.

• The final two-a-week residential garbage pickups will be Thursday and Friday. New once-a-week schedule begins Monday. (See story at right.)

• No change in The Reporter’s publishing schedule. The newspaper will be closed Friday and open on Monday.

Saturday dance to greet new year

The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce will greet the New Year with a dance from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday Sunday at the KC Hall.

Band is Texas Unlimited.

Tickets are priced at $75 per couple, $40 for individuals.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
