Bailey benefit ahead Jan. 28 at The Ranch

A benefit to assist longtime Rockdale-Thorndale area resident Andrea Bailey is set for Jan. 28 at The Ranch.

Activities include a morning motorcycle run, chili supper, live auction at 1 p.m. and music by Scott Leonard.

Bailey has been diagnosed with stage III-B cervical cancer, including the lymph nodes. Because she is undergoing weekly chemo and daily radiation treatments, she is unable to work and has no medical insurance.

Registration for the benefit motorcycle run starts at 9:30 a.m. with the first bike out at 11 and last bike in at 4 p.m., according to organizer Charles Starr.

Fee is $20 per rider, $25 for rider and passenger.

Stops are at War Horse Saloon in Thorndale, Pancho & Lefty’s in Hare, Cliff’s Tavern in Rockdale and The Oak Club near Pettibone.

Film workshop ahead Jan. 13th at Apache Pass

A film workshop with Carol Pirie, deputy director/program manager of the Texas Film Commission’s Film Friendly Texas Program, is set for Friday, Jan. 13 at Apache Pass.

The workshop is a project of Leadership Milam, a group charged with seeking out emerging leaders, throughout the county.

“The goal for Leadership Milam 2012 is to provide a location survey with a package of pictures depicting the most unique aspects of the county,” Paul Brian Morton, Leadership Milam member and president of the Thorndale Area Chamber of Commerce, said.

MDD executive session Thursday at City Hall

The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) will meet in an executive (closed) session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.

Only agenda item is to discuss personnel matters regarding an MDD manager/business recruiter position.

Any action would be taken in open session.

AEIS hearing slated by Rockdale trustees

A hearing for public discussion of Rockdale ISD’s Academic excellence Indicator System (AEIS) is set for 5:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, in the Central Administration Building, according to Pam Kaufmann, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

“Information will be provided regarding the 2009-10 district and campus performance profiles, comparable improvement, future performance objectives and district and campus improvements plans,” she said. “All parents and community members are urged to attend.”

City water line flushing scheduled for Jan. 18th

The Cit y of Rockda le w ill f lush water lines in all areas of tow n af ter midnight Jan. 18, according to City Manager Kelvin Knauf.

Knauf reminded water customers to run their cold water taps until the stream runs clear upon arising the morning following line flushing.
